Crowninshield Farm is located in central Maine, in the Belgrade Lakes Region. We offer training, boarding, lessons, trail rides, and vacation camps. The farm features an indoor and outdoor arena, round pen, 100 acres of trails, and free choice hay and turnout. A heated tackroom allows people to view lessons in comfort for winter months.
Lessons focus on helping riders become more confident and improving horsemanship- on the ground and in the saddle. Focuses include dressage, western pleasure, hunt seat, and centered riding. If a student were interested in showing or joining us for an out-of-barn trail ride, plans can be arranged.
Our horses are all taught with natural horsemanship from the ground, up. They are calm and gentle enough to allow theraputic riding. We have Norwegian Fjords, Appaloosas, and Quarter Horses.
Also on the farm we have Angora goats, guinea hens, chickens, and cows.
The farm is on the RSU 18 (Messalonskee) bus line., allowing kids to get off the bus after school.

Lessons are tailored to each individual to fit their certain needs. Beginners start with learning how to properly brush and tack up a horse. After learning balance and "feel" on a horse, a student can start learning how to train a horse or make the horse preform as if they were to show.
We focus on natural horsemanship, following Clinton Anderson. If a student wanted to learn groundwork and natural horsemanship, contact us.

Each day starts off with barn chores which includes cleaning manure, feeding horses, goats, and other animals, cleaning water tubs and more. Students go through 2 lessons a day plus various activities like swimming or tennis. A learning time for the topic of the day will be after lunch.
